Orchestra performs

The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra’s fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, features mandolinist Evan Marshall. Known for his one-man performance of the “William Tell Overture,” Marshall by himself sounds like several mandolinists performing together.

Inspired by guitar legend Chet Atkins and violinist Jascha Heifetz, Evans’ approach to solo mandolin combines bass lines, chords, rhapsodic runs and tremolo melodies.

The orchestra, conducted by Brian Oberlin, will play classics by Strauss, Bach, Faure and Lavry. The concert will also feature solos, duos and trios of swing and American fiddle tunes.

The performance will be held at the Walters Cultural Arts Center, 527 E. Main St., Hillsboro. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show, and are available by calling the box office at 503-615-3485 or online.
