Melanie Adams has been selected to lead the city of Hillsboro’s Building Department.

Last week, City Manager Michael Brown announced that Adams was being promotion from assistant building director to the head of the department effective Sept. 28.

Adams is taking the place of retired director Dennis Carney.

“This appointment recognizes the tremendous job Melanie has done through an intense period of high tech projects,” Brown said. “I’ve been impressed with Melanie since she started with our city and look forward to her continued leadership, innovation and unwavering commitment to excellence.”

Adams has served the city of Hillsboro as assistant building director since February 2012, and has many years of public service experience in community development, law and education. A graduate of Hope College in Holland, Mich., Adams earned her juris doctorate from Ohio State University and was formerly a practicing trial attorney. Prior to going to work for Hillsboro, Adams served as the building official for the city of Albany.

Brown credited Adams for leading the 33-employee Building Department through numerous examinations of internal processes and for making changes for greater clarity and efficiency.
