Second Cannon trial delay expected

Accused Hillsboro ex-cop likely wont face attempted murder charges until 2014

Hillsboro ex-cop Tim Cannon likely will remain in the Washington County Jail until early next year as he awaits trial on aggravated attempted murder charges.

Cannon's defense attorney, Ray Bassel of Hillsboro's Bassel & Rawls law firm, said Monday he would appear Wednesday, Sept. 11 in Washington County Circuit Court to request a second reset of the trial, which was originally scheduled to begin in July. It had been put off until Sept. 17 while attorneys for the prosecution and defense prepared their cases.

"Further time [is] needed to explore options," Bassel said.

Cannon's wife, Lisa, who works for the Forest Grove Police Department, called 9-1-1 the night of Jan. 20 after a domestic disturbance escalated inside their home near Forest Grove High School. Tim Cannon reportedly engaged in a shootout with officers from three county law enforcement agencies during a lengthy standoff in which one officer was wounded but no one was killed. His felony charges include assault, unlawful use of a firearm and 11 counts of aggravated attempted murder.
