With a state playoff berth on the line, the Reynolds pitching staff came through once again.

Reynolds's Lucas Dehnert stifled the Glencoe bats all afternoon, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Raiders to a 1-0 victory over the Crimson Tide in a state-qualifier game on Thursday.

"Today was huge. We wanted to get to the playoffs and I knew that if I came out and threw strikes that my team would have my back on defense," Dehnert said. "(Glencoe) is a really scrappy team. We just came out and made plays when we needed to."

Glencoe had at least one runner in scoring position in four of the seven innings in this game, but despite their opportunities, they were unable to get that timely hit.

"It was a tough loss. It was a great high school baseball game for sure...There was great defense and great pitching from both sides," Glencoe head coach Tim Stewart said. "We had our opportunities with guys in scoring position...It's baseball and that stuff happens, but being on this side of it is pretty sour."

Reynolds head coach Kyle Swoboda says that his pitcher has a "bulldog mentality," which proved to be crucial when Dehnert got himself in trouble throughout the course of this contest.

"We knew that Glencoe would be scrappy and they were scrappy all night...Lucas definitely gets that chip on his shoulder when runners are on," Swoboda said. "I though he did a great job. He threw strikes in big moments."
