Raider rallies come up just short vs. Rams
Reynolds gets within one point in the third quarter before falling to Central Catholic 53-43
The Reynolds boys basketball team put together several runs at the Rams, but could never get over the top during a 53-43 road loss at Central Catholic on Tuesday night.
Trailing 22-16 at the break, Reynolds point guard Cody Starr brought his team back with a series of incredible passes to start the second half. The most impressive display came when he went behind the back and between the legs to beat full-court pressure defense, opening the lane for teammate Somto Aniefuna to convert a three-point play that sliced the margin to a single point.
The Rams responded when Deante Strickland converted a rare four-point play on a deep shot from in front of Centrals bench. The Rams pushed the gap to 36-29 entering the fourth quarter.
The Raiders would get it down to a five-point game with 3:25 to play after Jaylen Edwards split a pair of defenders to reach the front of the rim. A turnover gave Reynolds a chance to make it a one-possession game, but the Raiders put a toe on the baseline to give the ball back to Central.
Strickland closed out the victory by going 7 for 8 (.875) at the free-throw line down the stretch.
