Centennial downs Gresham 21-14 with a late defensive stand

Bobby Craswell scores the winning touchdown late in the third quarter

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Centennial running back A.J. Wienke tries to get away from Gresham tackler Anthony Johnson during the Eagles 21-14 win Friday night. Centennial overcame a two-touchdown deficit in the first half to down Gresham 21-14, closing out the victory with a defensive stand in the final minutes.

The Eagles moved into the lead late in the third quarter when QB Bobby Craswell broke through the middle for a 30-yard touchdown run.

Gresham looked to answer in the fourth with a drive that peeled more than six minutes off the clock. All that separated the Gophers from a potential overtime was 13 yards of slippery grass and a point-after kick.

A pair of incomplete passes, including a shot into the end zone, brought up 4th-and-7 — one final gasp.

Centennial linebacker Justin Lee didn’t give the Gophers time to breath.

He blitzed in off the left side and was on Gresham QB Devon Shields before he could finish his dropback.

The Eagles took possession, running back A.J. Wienke picked up a first down on 3rd-and-3, and Centennial ran out the final 2:33 against a Gresham side that had used all of its timeouts.
