Centennial loses heartbreaker to start state tourney
Rookies squad falls 10-8 against Klamath Falls
SALEM The Centennial Little Leaguers got out to a fast start in their opening game at the rookies (ages 9-10) state tournament Saturday only to see Klamath Falls rush back to score a 10-8 win.
The Eagles took a 5-3 lead in the second inning after Zach Budworth sent a two-run double to center field, but Klamath Falls roared back with five runs in the third inning to move ahead.
Centennial tied the game 8-8 in the fourth inning when Frankie Porter Jr. slid home on a pitch in the dirt.
Klamath Falls scored the winning run with back-to-back doubles into left field to start the fifth inning.
Centennial takes on Lake Oswego in another pool-play game at 1 p.m. Sunday in Salem.
The top two teams in each group advance to the state semifinals Thursday.
