Gresham all-stars reach district finale

by: GRESHAM OUTLOOK: PARKER LEE - Greshams Kimo Hiu slides home safely during the teams 15-1 win over Clackamas in a championship-bracket game Tuesday night at the minors district tournament. DAMASCUS — Trevor Bless already had a hit and a pair of runs when he stepped to the plate for the Gresham All-Stars in the third inning against Clackamas on Tuesday. Before he dug in, Clackamas made a pitching change. While the new pitcher was warming up, Gresham manager Michael Abrahamson broke a cardinal rule of baseball coaching – he told Bless to swing for the fence.

Bless made Abrahamson look like Manager of the Year.

Bless, or “T-Bomb” as his teammates call him, crushed the first pitch he saw from the new hurler and deposited it into the field of crops 50 feet beyond the center-field fence. From there, the 10-and 11-year-old Little Leaguers from Gresham coasted to a 15-1 victory to claim their spot in the minors district championship at 6 p.m. Friday.

Look for extended game coverage in our Friday, July 5, print edition.
