The Oregon Department of Transportation has shuttered the scenic route through Monday, March 27.

The Historic Columbia River Highway will remain closed east of Crown Point between Multnomah Falls and Angel's Rest through Monday, March 27, the Oregon Department of Transportation reports.

ODOT closed the 2.3-mile stretch of roadway because of a persistent risk of mud or rock slides.

"Winter snow and ongoing rain have left the slope above the highway unstable, and the upcoming weather forecast includes more rain," a press announcement states. "ODOT crews will continue to evaluate conditions this week and will re-open the road when it is safe."

An earlier closure was announced on Thursday, March 16. The parallel Interstate 84 remains free, clear and open to traffic.
