The home on Deer Creek Place in the tony Persimmon neighborhood welcomes visitors in with a sweeping, light-filled cathedral of space, the perfect setting for a party.
And that's just the way the owners like using the room that features a wall of windows, skylights and 20 foot, soaring ceilings.
"We bought it instantly and this room is all that we saw," said Jesse Simons, who owns the house with his wife Dodi. She owns Columbia Gorge Chiropractic and Melt Massage in Troutdale.
"We entertain here maybe too much," Jesse said with a chuckle. "Seems like everybody ends up here."
Visitors enter the home through impressive double entry front doors with leaded privacy glass and are immediately pulled into the inviting great room space. A stacked stone fireplace adds warmth and interest to the gorgeous room, even when the fire is not burning. The owners have decorated with cozy spots for conversation, as well as leaving plenty of space to accommodate the flow of a big party.
"I loved the openness and the way that everything was not chopped up," Dodi said.
The floors, kitchen cabinets and other wood built-ins are constructed of a rich, cherry wood.
The owners have improved on the home's perfection with their own remodeling and personal touches.
One striking new feature is the magnificent granite island that sets off the kitchen space.
"We had bought that (granite) before we ever looked at the house and had it in storage," the owner said. The island is perfect for a few diners or for a luscious layout of party food and beverages. The great room and attached deck have territorial views.
For smaller parties, the formal dining room will enhance any meal served there. Guests will feel pampered in the nearby luxe powder room with its striking gold wallpaper.
And speaking of entertaining, the walk-in wine cellar will keep adult beverages organized and out of the way and ready to pop open for any gathering.
The 4,523 square foot home is a young 12 years old. It boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms in a layout that promotes serenity and solitude. The two master suites, one on the main floor, are anchored by stunning bathrooms with stone walk-in showers and double sinks. Guests, in-laws or privacy-loving teens will appreciate the get-away-from-it-all feel in the bedrooms and the chic, rectangle vessel sinks in the baths. Another deck off a family room also offers stunning views of the area.
Dodi said having the master on the main floor was a big draw for her.
The well-appointed laundry room is just a few steps down from the master suite on the main floor. The laundry has lots of counter space and copious cabinets for storing all those laundry needs. A mud room off the garage boasts multiple cabinets and allows residents to stash purchases easily. Michael Patrick, the realtor who brokered the purchase of the Simons' home, described the mud room as "the Costco room."
The house has all the less-glamorous amenities, including central air conditioning and a 923-square-foot, four-car garage.
If anyone is hankering for this house, you'll have a long wait.
"We're not about to sell it," Jesse said, sweeping his hand across the granite breakfast bar, smiling.
