Special needs dance event set for Mountainview church
Mountainview Christian Church will welcome more than 100 special guests Friday night for a fabulous and free prom, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Mountainview will welcome special needs party-goers 14 years old and older for "an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God's love."
Founded by well-known professional athlete Tebow, the Tim Tebow Foundation "exists to bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need," according to its website.
Night to Shine is a big production. Guests enter on a red carpet to applause from a crowd and photos from paparazzi. Participants are treated to hair and makeup makeovers and shoe shines. There will be limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres and prom favors.
A catered dinner will be provided, and there will be karaoke in addition to dancing. Each guest will be crowned as king or queen of the prom.
This is the first time for Mountainview, 1890 N.E. Cleveland Ave., to host the event. It joins more than 350 others around the world hosting Night to Shine dances. The foundation provides organizing assistance and financial support if churches can't fund the project on their own.
Mountainview volunteer Renae Rosencrans said most of the volunteer positions for the event are staffed, but the church needs more "dance buddy" volunteers to help make sure the guest has a good time.
