Pioneers of East County gather in Corbett

The East Multnomah County Pioneer Association will celebrate its 99th anniversary Sunday, Sept. 7, in Corbett.

Started in 1916 to celebrate the first people who came to East County, the pioneer association has been getting together once a year ever since to say hello, share stories and catch up.

“People come from all over the country to this event,” said Chuck Rollins, vice president of the East Multnomah County Pioneer Association.

Rollins said the association, one of the few in the state, has continued to grow and honor early pioneers as well as new pioneers.

More than 150 people are expected to show up Sunday.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria of Corbett Middle School, 35800 E. Historic Columbia River Highway in Corbett.

Cost for the event is $5. Lunch will be provided.

For more information, call Chuck Rollins at 503-695-5821.

Donate loose change to purchase furnishings

Crowdfunding is helping My Father’s House raise funds to furnish units in its soon-to-open transitional apartment building for single mothers and their families.

My Father’s House provides temporary housing for homeless families and is funded solely through private donations. If the organization meets its goal of $10,000 by Thursday, Sept. 11, the J.J. Murdock Trust has agreed to match the funds dollar for dollar. Donations will be used to buy furniture, appliances, kitchen utensils and more for 12 new two-bedroom apartments.
