From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, Metropolitan Family Service Community Schools will host their annual Soccer de Mayo event, bringing together youth and families from ten different MFS SUN sites in East Multnomah County.
The event will be held at Davis Elementary, 19501 N.E. Davis Street, Portland.
"Our staff has identified participating students and families who often face barriers to health due to their race, income and living situations," said Darrin Swaim, MFS director of communications.
"This year, our partnership with the State Office of Equity, part of Oregon Health Authority, is enabling us to add a focus on preventive health at the festival in the form of resource information, booths, healthy food and ways to get help for health care needs."
Organizers call the soccer tournament "spirited and popular"; it drew more than 700 participants last year. Attendees are invited to join for the full event or part of the day.
Thirteen community partners are expected to participate.
