Bruins welcome class of 2018

Barlow High School will host its eighth grade parent-student night Tuesday, March 18.

All incoming ninth graders and their parents are welcome.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

n 5:45-6:15 p.m., co-curricular “fair.”

n 6:30-6:55 p.m., general session in the auditorium.

n 7-8:15 p.m., elective presentation in classrooms (visit four).

H.B. Lee offers spring break health fair

During spring break, H.B. Lee Middle School is offering a health and wellness fair from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 26, in H.B. Lee Middle School’s gym and cafeteria.

Gresham student makes CLU dean’s list

Emma Peterson of Gresham is one of 708 students who made the dean’s list at California Lutheran University for the fall semester.

Peterson is an English major.

Students qualify for the dean’s list by maintaining a 3.6 GPA in their academic subjects.

They will be recognized for their achievement at the honors convocation on April 29.

Reyes wins state poetry title a second year

Rosie Reyes has won the state Poetry Out Loud competition and will advance to the national contest April 29-30 in Washington, D.C.

Reyes is a senior at Gresham’s Center for Advanced Learning and this is her second consecutive state title.

Maxell Romprey of West Salem High School is the runner-up.

Harrington announces scholarship for high school students

The Harrington Family Foundation has announced its new Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship program.

The foundation will offer four, four-year renewable scholarships for $2,500 to Oregon high school students who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and will attend an Oregon university, college or trade school during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Established in 2003 by Portland native Joey Harrington, a former NLF quarterback and University of Oregon football player, the foundation strives to support Oregon-based nonprofit groups dedicated to providing education and healthcare to in-state youth.
