Icy conditions persist in the vicinity of 181st Avenue and Interstate 84 this morning and motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling through the area, including freeway on- and off-ramps.

City transportation crews and the Oregon Department of Transportation "are tackling it with everything we can put on it to get it to melt," including sanding trucks and de-icing equipment, City Transportation Operations Superintendent Rae Sorenson said.

As of 9 a.m. she described conditions as a "solid sheet of ice," and urged caution between Sandy Boulevard and Glisan Street on 181st Avenue.
