Bonneville Dam seeks volunteers

Interested in meeting people from all over the world or helping protect Oregon’s natural resources?

Bonneville Lock and Dam is looking for weekend volunteers who would like to help run its visitor centers, powerhouse display gallery, bookstore and natural resource program in the coming months.

The dam is a National Historic Landmark managed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located off Interstate Highway 84 at Exit 40.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about Pacific Northwest salmon and how Bonneville Dam makes electricity; help rangers maintain and protect parks and trails; or work in retail services at the Discover Your Northwest bookstore, said Scott Clemans, spokesman at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland District.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and will need to fill out an application, authorize a background check, provide two personal references and participate in an interview.

Training will be provided, and mileage can be reimbursed, Clemans said.

If interested, contact Volunteer Coordinator Claudia Round at 1-541-374-4019 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
