Man stabbed, brother run down, both escape serious injury

Altercation in 7-11 parking lot

Two brothers are lucky to be alive after one was stabbed and another struck by a vehicle around midnight Saturday, Dec. 28 at the 7-11 Store in the 1400 block of Northeast 181st Avenue.

Gresham police responded to the parking lot of the store at 11:56 p.m. to a report of a man who had been stabbed. They found Johnnel Pettay, 23, of Gresham stabbed in the abdomen and his brother, John Pettay, 21, also of Gresham, had been hit by a car. The brothers said they had gotten into an argument with three suspects in the parking lot and after Johnnel Pettay was stabbed they tried to run away, but the suspects tried to run them town, striking John Pettay. The men were taken to a hospital and have non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Gresham police don't know if the fight was gang-related but said the victims and suspects were acquaintances and there is no danger to the public.

No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Gresham Police Department at 503-618-2719.
