Church helps at Centennial school

Members of Lynchwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) helped prepare Lynch Wood Elementary School for the new school year Aug. 25.

The church collected school supplies for 27 staff and faculty members, additional supplies for the office staff and 200 new books for students.

The church also spread bark in flower beds, power washed concrete, distributed bark chips under play equipment and made welcome cards for staff.

Student from Boring wins national contest

Bethany Strang of Boring is the grand prize winner of the fourth annual Grandparents Day Contest.

Her video submission, “Him and Her,” won a public vote in the contest, held Aug. 1-15. Bethany has won an Orlando vacation package with a seven-night hotel stay for four and roundtrip airfare.

The contest was part of Consumer Cellular’s celebration of grandkids and their grandparents.

Outdoor school receives $200,000 investment

East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District has donated $200,000 to the Multnomah Education Service District Outdoor School Program.

The donation will help students in Multnomah County to attend Outdoor School during the 2013-14 school year.

This year, private and public donors will finance 70 percent of the Outdoor School program’s $1.8 million operating budget.

MHCC opens first campus bank

Mt. Hood Community College opened its first campus bank on Aug. 26.

U.S. Bank is operating on campus 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with an ATM at the branch accessible throughout the day.

A ribbon-cutting will take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, with Dr. Debra Derr, MHCC president, as guest speaker.
