Womens running event returns
The Happy Girls Run Forest Grove is back at Hagg Lake for a second consecutive year on Saturday, Sept. 6. This womens running event includes an off-road half marathon and 10-kilometer and 5K races along lakeside trails and paths.
Registration fee is $85 for the half marathon, $45 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K, and includes goody bags, Happy Girl active wear and post-race refreshments.
The beneficiaries for this years event are the domestic violence agency Raphael House of Portland and the organization Girls Inc., which provides empowering programs and experiences for girls. The field is limited to 500 participants. Registration and more information is available at happygirlsrun.com/forestgrove.
Hall of Fame tickets on sale
Tickets to this years induction banquet for the Forest Grove High School Athletic Hall of Fame are now available for purchase.
The banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains. Tickets cost $35 per person and may be purchased in person at the high school athletic department office or by phone at 503-359-2437.
This years inductees are former athletes Robb Bauer (swimming, class of 1980), DeeAnn (Hetzel) Henderson (softball, class of 1986), Teena Shull Nelson (softball, class of 1987) and David Schiffer (track and field, class of 1988), as well as former coach and teacher Elma Hewitt and Citizens for a New Athletic Stadium, which spearheaded the efforts to build the high schools stadium in the 1970s and 1980s.
All individuals and business who played a role in the construction of the stadium are encouraged to attend so they can be recognized and are requested to contact the athletics office.
Road race set for next month
The 14th annual Forest Grove Lions Run & Walk for Sight is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20.
The event includes a 10-kilometer run and 5K run/walk. Walkers will start at 9 a.m., followed by runners 15 minutes later. The start/finish area is at the intersection of Cedar Street and Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove. Race routes will take participants past the McMenamins Grand Lodge and along Highway 47 (10K only). A Tot Trot for kids will also take place.
Registration is available online through Sept. 19 for $30 students, $35 adults. Race day registration will be available on site for $35 students, $40 adults. T-shirts are guaranteed to participants who register by Sept. 1.
Register for cycling event
Registration is available for the Harvest Century, a bike touring event based out of Hillsboro scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28. This falls ride, the 12th annual, is based at the Civic Center in downtown Hillsboro, 150 E. Main St.
Ride lengths are 100, 75 and 45 miles. A family-friendly 3-mile route also is available. The 100-mile route includes six food stops and will take riders along the back roads of western Washington County, including past Banks and Forest Grove, as well as near Newberg and Canby. A barbecue, dessert and beverages will be served at the finish.
The cost is $65. Participation in the family ride is free.
Online registration is available at harvestcentury.org through Sept. 23. Participants may also register on site the day of the event.
