Public art comes to '80s night

Enjoy a blast from the past to support a future Forest Grove art installment.

The Forest Theater, 1911 Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove, is hosting a fundraiser for the public art project, Molly’s Garden, and is hosted by the Forest Grove Public Art Commission. The installment — made of wood, metal and colored glass — will cost almost $70,000 and is scheduled to adorn the library’s entryway near Labor Day this year.

Carpenter is donating his time and labor expenses, but that leaves materials and installation costs that will be funded by the commission, grants and fundraisers.

In the 1980s classic, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” Matthew Broderick plays a high school teen who tries nearly everything to skip school. “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” features a very young Sean Penn and follows a group of California teens who enjoy malls, sex and rock n’ roll.

The screenings start at 7 p.m. The cost is $15 and includes a ticket, popcorn and soda.
