by: NEWS-TIMES FILE PHOTO - Hula dancing and traditional music make Pacific Universitys luau an authentic experience.Pacific University’s Hawaiian Club, Ná Haumána O Hawai’i, presents its 54th annual lu’au in Forest Grove Saturday, April 12.

The event will include traditional Polynesian dance, music and entertainment, preceded by an authentic lu’au meal from 4:30 to 6 p.m., featuring kalua pig, chicken long rice, teriyaki chicken, poi, haupia, coconut cake and punch.

Doors for the show open at 5:30 p.m. at the Stoller Athletic Center (SAC).

A Hawaiian general store will feature specialties flown in from the islands, including fresh pineapples, cookies, chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, leis, jams and jellies, and other treats. The shop will be open in the SAC Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m. before the show.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $37 depending on seating and dinner choice.

The Hawaiian Club was established at Pacific in 1959 and has grown steadily since. The lu’au is a collaborative effort of Pacific students, including Hawaiian Club members, faculty, staff, local community members and businesses. Many students’ parents come from the islands a week in advance to make leis and put together decorations.
