Food film comes to grange Thursday

by: COURTESY PHOTO - Symphony of the Soil, which has been praised by the New York Times and Washington Post, will be screened in Forest Grove Thursday. Local residents can watch “The Symphony of the Soil,” a documentary about the concerning current treatment of soil, right here in town Thursday.

The Dairy Creek Community Food Web is hosting its free third Thursday film at 7:30 p.m. March 20 at the Forest Grove Grange, 1917 B St., with free popcorn.

Drawing from ancient knowledge and cutting edge science, “Symphony of the Soil” is an artistic exploration of one of the most miraculous substances — soil. By understanding the elaborate relationships and mutuality between soil, water, the atmosphere, plants and animals, the film aims to illustrate an appreciation of the complex and dynamic nature of this precious resource.

The film also examines the relationship between humans and soil, the use and misuse of soil in agriculture, deforestation and development and the latest scientific research on soil’s key role in ameliorating the most challenging environmental issues of our time. Filmed on four continents, featuring scientists, working farmers and ranchers, “Symphony of the Soil” highlights the possibilities of healthy soil creating healthy plants creating healthy humans living on a healthy planet.

The film’s crew consisted of creative professionals and biologists.

The film is the winner of the Merit Award for Scientific Information 2012, Montana CINE International Film Festival, Best in Festival of the Life Sciences Film Festival 2012, Czech University of Life Sciences, the Food Award 2013 and at the Cinema Verde Film Festival.
