Marathon of hymns comes to church


Choir members aim to sing all 720 songs in hymnal March 2

by: COURTESY PHOTO - The St. Bedes choir will be singing all day Saturday -- stop by and support them.A dozen members of the St. Bede’s Episcopal Church choir will sing all day Sunday, March 2 as a fund-raiser for their music ministry, covering portions of all 720 hymns in the hymnal during the day-long “hymn-a-thon.”

“Our church is small but mighty,” said choir member and organist Jeannine Jordan. “We’re working to make sure the quality of our music doesn’t suffer.”

Attendance is free but donations are welcome. Attendees can also sponsor a song for a concert hour at 1 p.m. or buy Jordan’s organ music CD.

The performance starts at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., three guitarists will join in for the hymn singing. An hour-long church service is set for 10 a.m., with a potluck to follow. At noon, the choir will sing Christmas carols and Easter songs. At 1 p.m., the concert hour will start, in which attendees can sponsor certain songs to hear them in their entirety. The regular concert will begin again at 2 p.m. and will continue into the evening.

St. Bede’s is located at 1609 Elm St. in Forest Grove.
