Harmony Masters carol at Cornell Estates

Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters presents a concert of Christmas carols sung barbershop style on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Cornell Estates Retirement and Assisted Living Center in Hillsboro. The free show begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Hillsboro-based men’s a cappella chorus celebrates its 38th year this Christmas. A member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the nonprofit group hosts the annual Ballad Town Quartet singing competition. Barbershop is a style of music born in the United States in the late 1800s. It is singing unaccompanied by instruments in four-part harmony in such a way that the blended voices create an accoustical effect known as “the fifth voice.”

The show promises traditional carols, tight harmonies, quick wit and songs of old. Cornell Estates is located at 1005 N.E. 17th Avenue. For information call 503-640-2884.
