Meet the artists at December exhibit openings

The holidays are upon us, adding to the many entertainments to choose from. Not to be lost in the flurry of the season are December art openings and receptions at area galleries.

Homeless youth show art at Walters

The Walters Cultural Arts Center Gallery welcomes a new exhibit that brings to light the artistic talents of homeless youth and the professional artists who mentor them at the Portland: Education, Art and Recreation program, known as “p:ear.” Each year the program serves almost 900 homeless and transitional youth between the ages of 15 and 24, working to strengthen their lives through creative mentoring.

Meet the artists at the First Tuesday reception Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Bluegrass duo Steve Blanchard and Matt Snook will entertain. Visitors are invited to bring TriMet passes and warm gloves or hats to donate to HomePlate, the nonprofit that serves homeless youth in Washington County.

The exhibit runs through Jan. 28. For information, call 503-615-3485.
