“The whole idea is to reach out to the Forest Grove community, to have them come hear what we are doing,” said Dr. Scott Tuomi, now in his 27th year at Pacifi. Tuomi heads the music department, teaches voice and leads the university’s Chamber Singers.

“This is a nice way to end things musically for the term,” he said.

“They come to just sing together. Finals are almost over and the holiday season is upon us.”

The university, which offers degrees in music performance and music education, has more music majors and minors in the program than ever before, Tuomi said: “The building is packed with music all the time. It is really wonderful.”

Next Saturday’s concert will be diverse, featuring ensembles with as many as 80 singers, to groups with as few as four. Students are preparing a wide variety of seasonal music including spirituals, vocal jazz, traditional carols and new versions of familiar tunes.

“I would say it is very festive overall,” said Tuomi.

Among the pieces concert-goers can look forward to are arrangements of “O Magnum Mysterium,” “Alleluia Rejoice,” “Ave Maria,” “Carol of the Stable Dog,” “I Saw Three Ships,” “Snowfall,” “White Christmas” and a sing-along.

The university’s Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will join the vocalists on stage, as will the handbell choir from the United Church of Christ.

General admission tickets are $7, available through the university box office at 503-352-2918 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Show time is 7:30 p.m. in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center on the Forest Grove campus, 2043 College Way.
