A 'murder' worth celebrating

Forest Grove resident Susan Springer Munger, a business consultant, retired academic, office manager and singing balloon deliverer, has written her second mystery: “Music to Murder By.”

Periscope Books & Tutoring, 1920 Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove, is hosting a Book Launch Party to help celebrate the event. The free party is open to all and runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, with complimentary refreshments. Munger will read from her book at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The book is her second Scott Michael Murphy novel “as told by Jan Calendar.” It tells the story of longtime friends Murphy and Calendar, two late-middle-age men who find themselves pulled into a murder investigation after a major donor to the police cadet program is shot during a musical fundraiser.

Munger wrote the first book in the series in 1995. In an online “Acknowledgements” page she thanks her late parents, “who gave me the genes to become ill enough to have nothing else to do but write ‘Murphy’s Day Off.’”
