Banks breaks ground on library community room
The Friends of the Banks Library will host a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Jane Moore Community Room at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. The celebration will be held at the Banks City Library, 42461 N.W. Market St.
The event celebrates the beginning of construction on the long-awaited community room. Major donors will be recognized and light refreshments will be served.
The new community room will be added on the north end of the library building. It will be equipped with video presentation and conferencing equipment.
The addition will be a flexible-use space available for events and meetings during and after library hours. During library hours, the room will be available for use with additional seating, Wi-Fi and tables.
The library's former community room was remodeled and turned into an extension of the library, filled with shelves of books.
Friends members fundraised and garnered nearly $185,000 in donations from local individuals and businesses.
Additional funding comes from Washington County Gain Share funds, and grants from the Ford Family Foundation, Collins Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, Ann and Bill Swindells Charitable Trust, Samuel S. Johnson Foundation, Rose E. Tucker Foundation, and others.
