Join local nonprofit Adelante Mujeres 5 to 7 p.m. March 22, for Fields for Food, a workshop for landholders interested in starting or improving a lease relationship.
The workshop will cover setting up and maintaining an agricultural lease, including alternative options for sharing land such as partnerships, tenant trading and stewardship of National Resource Conservation Services contracts for lease payments.
Nellie McAdams – farmer, attorney and Farm Preservation Program Director at Rogue Farm Corps – will present about negotiating, writing and maintaining a lease contract. She'll also cover passing on land and legacy to a new farmer.
Alejandro Tecum, sustainable agriculture program director at Adelante Mujeres, will talk about the specific opportunities and considerations for working with Latino farmers.
Landowners Diana McKinnon and Chuck Staughan will share their experiences after several years of leasing to Adelante Mujeres' farming program participants.
The workshop will be held at the United Church of Christ, 2032 College Way in Forest Grove. The event is free and sponsored by Adelante Mujeres, Nana Cardoon Urban Farm and Learning Center, and Dairy Creek Community Food Web. Light appetizers will be provided.
