Head to Pacific for a talk with Muslim Education Trust and buy some local art to help a local artist

Muslim Education Trust women coming to Pacific University

Pacific University is celebrating International Women's Day by hosting three women from the Muslim Education Trust who will share their experiences of practicing Islam in a culture that is predominately non-Muslim.

In an open discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, the panelists will explore the rewards and challenges of being a Muslim woman in America. This is a Women's History Month event, which celebrates women across time and around the world. It will take place at Pacific University, Burlingham Conference Room, Forest Grove.

Art show helps Helvi

A Framer's Touch is hosting a non-juried, fundraising art show to benefit the recovery of local artist Helvi Smith, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015 and received a stem cell transplant in 2016.

Local artists have donated original work to be shown for sale. Some works are framed and will sell at $65, and some will be unframed and sell at $40. All proceeds will go to Smith to aid in her recovery.

The exhibit will be hung in A Framer's Touch gallery and runs from March 4 through April 1. Unsold artwork will be moved to Smith's studio in Forest Grove. There is an opening reception 3 to 6 p.m. March 4, where the public is invited to view the show. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

A Framer's Touch is located at 1920 21st Ave. in Forest Grove.
