Shots fired in downtown Forest Grove

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Dec. 21, police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Main Street and 19th Avenue in downtown Forest Grove.

An officer in the area heard the shots and saw a Ford Explorer leave the area, according to Capt. Mike Herb, spokesman for the Forest Grove Police Department. The officer stopped the vehicle after it ran a red light, he said, and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Meanwhile, investigators found three 9mm shell casings in the street near the location. Two Beaverton police canine units responded and assisted with an article search, but no weapon was located. The Washington County Sheriff's Office and Inter-agency Gang Enforcement Team also assisted with the investigation. Officers interviewed several witnesses at the scene and the roadway was closed for approximately two hours.

Police believe a second vehicle may have possibly been involved; however, this has not been confirmed and there is no description available at this time.

As of noon Saturday, no other arrests had been made and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Forest Grove Police Department at 503-992-3260, or after hours at 503-629-0111.
