Virginia Garcia health clinic gets grant

Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in Cornelius received a $858,333 grant, part of $2.4 million in funds awarded to community health centers, which give low-income and rural Oregon residents access to health care.

The Affordable Care Act created an $11 billion fund to support the operation, expansion and construction of community health centers during a five-year period.

Virginia Garcia staff are planning on opening a new clinic in Newburg next year.

“Access to primary care and prevention is essential to getting America healthy,” Sen. Ron Wyden said. “Community health centers in Oregon are an important part of that effort. This funding is well deserved and is yet another example of the quality services delivered by — and to — Oregonians.”

Other grant money was awarded to facilities in Bandon, Medford and Roseburg.
