The power is out in Cornelius, leaving businesses and homes in the dark.

The power went out about 1 p.m. Power was estimated to come back on in the afternoon, but stayed out passed its projected 4 p.m. come-back time, according to local business employees who decided to hold out and see if it came back on, including Dutch Brothers, Betty's Dog Grooming, Cornelius Dental Clinic, and the Cornelius Public Library.

Ken Summers said they didn't have any trouble, but traffic was backed up through town. "Everybody was behaving, fortunately," Summers said.

With no traffic lights, it was stop-and-go for drivers on Adair and Baseline streets.

PGE workers are currently working to restore power.

A PGE 97113 zip code web search estimates 4,859 people are affected by the outage, and they've received 2,475 calls. Wildlife and equipment failure are listed as the causes.
