Films to brighten Family Town

NEWS-TIMES PHOTO: Kathleen RohdeAfter Cornelius' first-ever Ice Cream Social July 31, "Oregon's Family Town" is preparing for another new family-friendly activity: Flicks in the Park on Aug. 14. Disney's "The Love Bug" will be shown outdoors in Harleman Park, at South Heather Street and South 10th Avenue, beginning around 8:30 p.m. Families are welcome to bring blankets and picnic meals. No alcohol is allowed and pets are discouraged. A week later, Aug. 21, "Bedtime Stories" will be the second Flicks in the Park.

The ice cream social drew about 50 people to Harleman Park to snack on frozen ice cream treats from a large yellow Schwan's freezer truck. About 25 children who giggled their way through a performance by BJ the Clown. Face painters also volunteered their time. The Cornelius Library had a booth with information about the new library, while the Public Works Department had several work trucks on display. Some city councilors also attended, along with Police Chief Ken Summers and firefighters.
