Students around the Estacada School District discuss experiences with this school year thus far

School bells are ringing once again now that summer vacation has come to an end. Classes in the Estacada School District began last week. On Friday, Sept. 1, the Estacada News discussed the start of the school year with students Carson Beguelin, a junior at Estacada High School; Lily Mixon, an eighth-grader at Estacada Middle School; Chloe Cooper, a fifth-grader at River Mill Elementary School; and Hudson Smith, a fourth-grader at Clackamas River Elementary School.

ESTACADA NEWS: How was your summer vacation?

Lily Mixon: It was fun. I went to the Canby Rodeo and took pictures with the rodeo clown. I went to the Clackamas County 4-H Horse Fair and placed well.ESTACADA NEWS PHOTO: EMILY LINDSTRAND - Lily Mixon is an eighth grader at Estacada Middle School.

EN: How has the first week of school been?

MIXON: It's been fun. I like all my classes. I have friends in my classes, and I've had the teachers before, so I know what they expect.

EN: What's your favorite class this year?

MIXON: Social studies with Mrs. Juker. We're learning about the original 13 colonies. I've been wanting to learn about that.

EN: What do you think this year will be like?

MIXON: I think it's going to be good. I'm getting a lot of my work done already.

EN: What was the best part of your summer vacation?

HUDSON SMITH: My cousins from Alabama visited. It was really fun because we hardly ever see them. On their last day here, we went to Pietro's Pizza.

EN: How has the first week of school been?

SMITH: I got the teacher I wanted, Mrs. Hulsey. I'm excited. It's been fun. Then we answered them.

EN: What's your favorite subject this year?

SMITH: Science or math. Mrs. Hulsey makes it fun. We play high ball or low ball where we have to make a number higher or lower.

EN: What are you most excited about this year?

SMITH: The field trips. I can already tell they'll be really fun. I'm looking forward to them.

Estacada News: What was the most exciting part of your summer?

CARSON BEGUELIN: I was a camp counselor at Eagle Fern Camp. It was cool to interact with the kids. Now some of the people I was a camp counselor to go to school here and I get to be peers with them.

EN: How has the first week of school been?

BEGUELIN: It's been great. I think our school ESTACADA NEWS PHOTO: EMILY LINDSTRAND - Carson Beguelin is a junior at Estacada High School.is going in a good direction The new principal seems excited about doing what's best for the school.

EN: What's your favorite class this year?

BEGUELIN: Musical theater. We're doing a show called "Curtains." It's a show within a show, and that's cool. The lead in the play within the play dies and then the detective comes in. It's a murder mystery, but it's a fun comedy.

EN: What are you most excited about this year?

BEGUELIN: I'm excited about the freshman class, and how big of a class it is. They all seem excited to be at school. And I think the new principal is going to help unify our school. That's important for a school, because we're all here for the same reason.

EN: What was the most exciting part of your summer vacation?

CHLOE COOPER: I went to 14 states and saw family and hung out with friends. My favorite states were Florida and Alabama.

EN: How has the first week of school been?

COOPER: It's been pretty easy and fun.

EN: What's your favorite subject this year?

COOPER: Math. It challenges me to think harder.

EN: What are you most excited about this year?

COOPER: Having a new teacher, seeing friends again and learning more.
