Students at Estacada Junior High School originally buried the time capsule in 1976

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Estacada students from the 1970s and 1980s stand triumphantly after reburying a time capsule from their school days.

A time capsule buried more than 40 years ago and excavated 16 years ago is in the ground once again.

Students at Estacada Junior High School originally buried the time capsule in 1976, filling it with items like a Sears Roebuck catalog and phone book.

In 2001, the then-grown students returned to the junior high school campus to dig up the time capsule and relive their memories.

In the years after that,

the contents of the time capsule lived in the garages

and houses of the former students.

But in June of this year, the time capsule returned to the ground. Some of the same students who buried the time capsule originally added items from the past several decades, such as a flip phone, yearbooks from Estacada schools and an Atari game controller.

It had taken over a decade, but the time capsule was home again.
