Junior high volunteers earn pizza party

Students volunteered more than 140 hours at the Food Bank


by: ISABEL GAUTSCHI - Tyler Hostler, Riley Johnson and Sebastian Fredrick were among the 57 Estacada Junior High students who volunteered at the Estacada Area Food Bank at least once this year.Nearly 60 Estacada Junior High seventh- and eighth-graders volunteered at least once during this school year at the Estacada Area Food Bank.

The students were rewarded with a pizza party on Friday, May 16, for the more than 140 hours they had collectively spent volunteering at the food bank.

Seventh-grader Xandra Lancaster said she had volunteered for “the fact of being able to help people.”

Eighth-grader Isabella King said she had signed up because she had enjoyed volunteering for the food bank with her class in elementary school.

Estacada Area Literary Foundation President Linda Arnett and her daughter, science teacher Margie Arnett, began the junior high food bank volunteer program in 2008.
