Sewer project continues in northwest Estacada

Since mid-November, crews have been working to repair or replace 73 service lateral pipes in the northwest part of Estacada.

City Manager Bill Elliott explained that the city's sanitary sewer system has been overtaxed with an excess of groundwater.

“We have a whole lot of water going through the system when it rains real hard,” Elliott said in an interview in early December. “We're not sure exactly where it's getting in.”

Public Works Director Tom Seal said that crews have been fixing leaky sewer mains and replacing or fixing service laterals so that no ground water can get into the system.

The bulk of the work has occurred between West First and Northwest Sixth streets and between Main and Northwest Wade streets.

“The end product is we won't have as much ground water going through the sewer system which will be a savings to the city,” Seal said.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of December.
