Firewood cutting restricted

The danger of a fire starting is high throughout the Mt. Hood National Forest.

For that reason, cable yarding, blasting, welding, cutting metal and the operation of power saws (except at loading sites) are permitted only between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Mt. Hood National Forest lands.

People are required to watch for fire for an hour after turning off power saws and other equipment on forest lands.

Any power saw or motor bike being operated on national forest lands is required to have an approved spark arrestor installed.

In addition, anyone starting a campfire on national forest lands is required to have a shovel and water nearby.

Do not leave a campfire unattended until it has been doused and stirred in water and the site is cool to the touch.
