Tualatin senior Adam Klein ran away from a field of 171 runners to win the boys' varsity race at Thursday's season-opening Bill Chapman Invitational cross country meet in Hillsboro.
Klein covered the 5,000-meter course at Rood Bridge Park in a time of 16 minutes, 1.42 seconds, finishing more than six seconds ahead of Jesuit sophomore Shaw Powell.
Clackamas sophomore Benjamin Harvey paced the Cavaliers, finishing 20th overall in a time of 17:49.53. Andy Krueger (54th, 18:34.64) led the La Salle contingent, and Riley Crosby (100th, 19:56.92 set the pace for Putnam.
Jesuit placed five runners among the top six as the Crusaders and won the boys' team title with 20 points, followed by Jesuit with 93 and Tualatin with 107. Clackamas finished eighth with 229 points.
