Strauss, Marlatt in form for Putnam
But Liberty wins the dual meet by 34
Seniors Tyler Strauss and Bryan Marlatt continued tough for Putnam's track and field team last week, as both athletes won two events in a dual meet with Liberty.
Strauss won both the 100 (11.33) and 200 (23.15), while Marlatt was the class of the field in the high jump (6-4) and long jump (21-7-1/2).
Strauss' winning time in the 100 was the second-best time recorded by any Northwest Oregon Conference sprinter this season and his time in the 200 was third-best for the NWOC.
Marlatt's effort in the long jump ranks him No. 3 in the NWOC in that event. He holds the second-best mark in the league in the high jump, at 6-6.
Putnam sophomore Jonathan Wilson made it a sweep for Putnam boys in the jumps, winning the triple jump with an effort of 40-0-1/2.
Putnam boys also had a winner in the discus, where sophomore Derrel Bilsky came through with a winning throw of 110-9.
Putnam lost the boys meet, 89-1/2 to 55-1/2.
Putnam girls had only three winners. Senior Bella Geist won the high hurdles in a career-best time of 16.41; freshman Audrey Bright cleared 9-0 for first place in the pole vault, and Putnam freshman Margaret Batz (28.80) set the pace in the 200-meter dash.
Putnam lost the girls meet, 106-35.
The Kingsmen square off with cross-town rival Milwaukie, Parkrose and Wilsonville at Milwaukie this afternoon in their final NWOC meet of the regular season.
