Geist, Arrington, Marlatt get it done for Putnam
But the Kingsmen come up short in a dual meet at St. Helens
The Rex Putnam Kingsmen had three double winners in last week's Northwest Oregon Conference dual meet at St. Helens.
Senior Bella Geist and sophomore Angela Arrington were double winners for Putnam girls, while senior Bryan Marlatt won two events for Putnam boys.
Geist won the high hurdles in a season's best time of 16.79, and she ran away with first place in the 300-meter low hurdles, with an effort of 50.90.
Arrington headed the field in the shot put (28-9) and discus (89-6).
Marlatt won handily in the high jump and long jump, clearing the bar at 6-0 in the high jump and winning the long jump by nearly three feet with an effort of 21-2-1/4.
Senior Tyler Strauss was the only other winner for Putnam boys. He won a hotly contested race with St. Helens senior Tanner Long, 11.60 to 11.83, in the 100-meter dash.
Putnam girls had two other winners in individual events, freshman Margaret Batz in the 200 (29.69) and senior Monserrat Martinon in the 1,500 (5:49.86).
St. Helens won the boys meet, 87-55, and the Lions won the girls meet, 96-45.
Still looking for their first league dual win, the Kingsmen host Liberty (2-2) this afternoon.
