CLAREMONT, CALIF. Putnam graduate Michaela Freeby starred for Willamette University Saturday at the NCAA Division III West Regional Cross Country Championships.
The junior from Milwaukie won the womens individual championship, helping the Bearcat womens team earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Freeby headed the field for the womens race, finishing the 6-kilometer Pomona-Pitzer course in 21:37.66 and crossing the finish line 10 seconds in front of the runner-up [Melissa Skiba of California Lutheran].
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the womens team title in the 20-team field, with a score of 62. Willamette (82 points) was second; Whitworth University (112) placed third.
