Lacey, Nelson place high

Oregon City senior Al Lacey and Pioneer junior Miranda Nelson earned top 10 finishes at a six-team Mt. Hood Conference/Three Rivers League cross country meet, hosted Oct. 2 by Centennial High School.
Lacey placed seventh in the 46-runner varsity boys field, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16:36.30. David Douglas freshman Ahmed Muhumed (16:03.20) beat out Centennial junior Thomas Morrell III (16:14.10) for first place in the boys race.
Nelson was clocked at 20:25.60, good for ninth place in the 44-runner varsity girls race. Grant sophomore Ella Donaghu (17:40.30) was a runaway winner in the girls race, crossing the finish line more than 40 seconds in front of the next highest finisher.
Lake Oswego was the only other TRL team in the meet and Lacey and Nelson both finished in front of the top male and top female runners from Lake Oswego.
Grant boys and girls were easily the top teams. Oregon City boys placed third in the team scoring; Oregon City girls placed fifth.
Varsity boys team scores were: Grant 31, David Douglas 48, Oregon City 90, Centennial 96, Lake Oswego 117, Gresham 134.
Varsity girls teams scores were: Grant 26, David Douglas 65, Gresham 76, Lake Oswego 88, Oregon City 126 and Centennial 142.
Other scorers for Oregon City boys included: sophomore James Swyter, 13th (17:01.30); junior Jordan Howell, 21st (17:39.50); senior Corey Hedger, 22nd (17:48.30); and senior Dylan Good, 32nd (18:16.40).
Other scorers for Oregon City girls included: senior Kaelynn Lowe, 14th (20:40.20); sophomore Corina Stilwell, 39th (23:05.70); sophomore Jenna Beyer, 40th (23:06.10); and junior Raegen Lyon, 42nd (23:25.10).
at Pre Nationals
La Salle Prep boys placed ninth in a field of 26 teams in the Division I varsity race at the recent Nike Pre Nationals Cross Country Meet.
The Falcon guys scored 299 and finished back of Central Kitsap (134), Marist (203), Frontier Academy (215), Skyview (222), Camas (258), South Medford (263) and Joel Ferris (288).
Senior Will Thompson headed up the effort for La Salle boys, placing 17th in a field of 100 runners with a 5,000-meter time of 17:38.10. The race was won by Northwest High School junior Graham Peet, in 17:01.12.
Competing in the Division 2 varsity race, La Salle girls scored 384 and placed 14th out of 23 teams. West Point Grey was a runaway team winner in the Division 2 girls race.
Sophomore Carly Veasy placed 27th (21:26.16) in a field of 100 runners to lead La Salle girls.
The Nike Pre Nationals were held Sept. 28 at Portland Meadows.
