Falcons compete with the big boys

La Salle places sixth in a 27-team 5A/6A invitational


The La Salle Falcons made some noise at the 2013 Northwest Classic Cross Country Invitational, held Sept. 21 at Lane Community College.

The Falcons boys competed in the division of the meet for Class 5A and Class 6A schools and placed sixth out of the 27 teams in the division. The Class 4A Falcons scored 218 points, finishing back of teams from Sheldon (112), Summit (119), West Linn (146), Grant (151) and South Eugene (151). Lincoln (249), North Medford (279), South Medford (280) and Forest Grove (333) rounded out the top 10.

La Salle senior Will Thompson headed up the effort, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16:29, good for 18th place in the 189-runner field. Forest Grove senior Geremia Lizier-Zmudzinski set the pace, at 15:41.

Also scoring for the Falcons were: junior Jason Rae, 42nd (16:54); senior Colton Passmore, 44th (16:57); senior Logan Veasy, 46th (17:00); and senior Davis Keeney, 78th (17:34).

Competing in the Division for 1A/2A/3A/4A girls, La Salle coeds scored 175 and placed sixth out of 17 teams. Molalla (61), Phoenix (125), Siuslaw (130), Creswell (166) and Yreka (173) were the top five teams.

Sophomore Carly Veasy led La Salle girls, placing 14th (21:01) in a 120-runner field. Molalla senior Emily Bever (18:57) won the 1A/2A/3A/4A 5,000-meter girls race. Molalla had three runners finish in the top 10.

Rounding out the scoring for La Salle girls were: sophomores Myriam Yao (38th, 22:01), Olivia Ogard (39th, 22:01) and Manicia Doss (42nd, 22:23), and junior Moira Eaton (51st, 22:58).
