The goal of Solarize Milwaukie is to increase the community's use of solar from its current consumption of about 733 kW to 2.2 MW by the year 2021

After a competitive proposal process, the city of Milwaukie has selected Sunlight Solar Energy, Inc. as the vendor for the recently-initiated Solarize Milwaukie program.

Sunlight Solar Energy has operated for more than 25 years and has won numerous awards for solar programs it has been involved with in several states across the country.

By preselecting a vendor for the program, city officials hope to help Solarize Milwaukie participants lower the cost of their solar systems through bulk purchasing, simplify the process of getting bids for homes and streamline the installation process.

"We're excited to work with Sunlight Solar Energy for this program and confident in their ability to provide Milwaukie residents with dependable solar systems for their homes," said Haley Fish, Milwaukie finance director. "Their experience and expertise should give homeowners a lot of confidence to participate in Solarize Milwaukie."

Interested homeowners can meet with Sunlight Solar Energy installers and representatives at the next Solarize Milwaukie informational workshop on Thursday, Sep. 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 3200 S.E. Harrison St.

Along with Sunlight Solar Energy, Solarize Milwaukie is partnering with Energy Trust of Oregon and Solar Oregon, who both have extensive experience with solar programs in the state. These organizations are lending their expertise and serve as an additional resource for Milwaukie residents who want to know more about using solar systems on their homes.

The goal of Solarize Milwaukie is to increase the community's use of solar from its current consumption of about 733 kW to 2.2 MW by the year 2021. This goal equates to solarizing less than eight percent of Milwaukie's single-family homes in five years.
