Cans to support community
The Milwaukie Lions Club will be holding a can-and-bottle drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in the parking lot at the Bomber Restaurant on McLoughlin Boulevard.
"Simply drop off your cans and we will take care of the rest," said Carrie Bartley of the Milwaukie Lions Club. "You can save yourself some time and know that your donation is going to a great cause - supporting our community!"
The project is called "Cans for a Cause" and the funds raised will go to support the local Backpack Buddies program, providing for up to 84 children at Oak Grove School The Lions supply a variety of food for the weekend, each week during the school year. Enough food is sent home with the students for at least two meals over the weekend, and extra food is sent home over holiday weekends and vacation.
Funds raised through the can-and-bottle drive will also go to the club's sight-and-hearing mission to provide eye glasses and hearing aids to those who can't afford them.
In addition to can-and-bottle donations, the club also welcomes the community to drop off used eyeglasses, hearing aids and old cell phones for recycling.
