The Gladstone School District has chosen Jere Applebee to be the new early learning director at the Gladstone Center for Children & Families.
Currently the vice principal at John Wetten Elementary, Applebee has had an education career in Oregon City and Gladstone spanning 34 years. A 1976 graduate of Gladstone High School, he has worked in the district for 15 years serving as a P.E. and health teacher at all levels, basketball coach and athletic director.
"Jere is a proven leader in our district," said Superintendent Bob Stewart in a March 10 announcement. "In his multiple roles he has been instrumental in developing partnerships with local businesses. I look forward to his leadership at the Gladstone Center for Children & Families."
The school district will be accepting applications for the John Wetten vice-principal role in the near future. Applebee holds a master's degree in physical education and an administrative license from Portland State University.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with our community in a different capacity," Applebee said. "I've been connected to this community for many years and it's a special place to live and work."
