Gladstone School District names Jere Applebee new director of early learning

Currently the vice principal at John Wetten Elementary, Applebee has had an education career in Oregon City and Gladstone spanning 34 years

The Gladstone School District has chosen Jere Applebee to be the new early learning director at the Gladstone Center for Children & Families.

Starting July 1, he will serve as the Gladstone School District's director of early learning.Currently the vice principal at John Wetten Elementary, Applebee has had an education career in Oregon City and Gladstone spanning 34 years. A 1976 graduate of Gladstone High School, he has worked in the district for 15 years serving as a P.E. and health teacher at all levels, basketball coach and athletic director.

"Jere is a proven leader in our district," said Superintendent Bob Stewart in a March 10 announcement. "In his multiple roles he has been instrumental in developing partnerships with local businesses. I look forward to his leadership at the Gladstone Center for Children & Families."

The school district will be accepting applications for the John Wetten vice-principal role in the near future. Applebee holds a master's degree in physical education and an administrative license from Portland State University.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with our community in a different capacity," Applebee said. "I've been connected to this community for many years and it's a special place to live and work."
