Oregon City High School, 19761 S. Beavercreek Road, will be hosting the all-day championship fresh off of earning second place in the “Novelty” category Nov. 23 at the Reynolds High School Eastside Dance Festival.

Rex Putnam and Clackamas high school dance teams are the current state champions in their given divisions and also qualified to compete at the Category Championships. Rex Putnam qualified three routines and Clackamas qualified two routines for this weekend’s competition.

“It is an honor to qualify just one routine at this level of competition,” said Sherry Summerville, Rex Putnam head dance coach.

Gladstone High School ruled the day at Reynolds with first place in hip hop and second place in jazz. Milwaukie High School also earned an invite to OCHS from the Dance and Drill Coaches Association of Oregon with a third-place finish in the jazz category last month.

The Oregon City Jets’ coaches are Carly Brown and Lindsey Andre; Ryan Sanford is coaching the MHS Pony Prancers; Denise Harris coaches the Gladstone Gladettes.

“Every fall this is what we look forward to, and we all hope to qualify, so we’re really excited not only to be able to participate, but also that it’s so close by this year at OCHS,” Harris said.
