Tree-climbing class offered in Oregon City

Tree Climbing Planet is offering a daylong climbing class on Aug. 23, designed for those wanting to learn techniques to safely access the tree canopy.

Canopy researchers, photographers, adventure seekers, eco-tourism operators, nature lovers and tree workers are the target audience for learning the basics of technical tree climbing.

Participants will learn how to ascend into the tree using the same rope-and-saddle method that canopy researchers use, which Tree Climbing Planet says is the most versatile and safest climbing technique. Instruction includes basic tree climbing techniques, required equipment, knot tying, rope placement and basic tree inspection.

The class is led by Tim Kovar, an instructor with 20 years of teaching experience in forests throughout the world.

“Tree climbing is an adventure like no other, one that offers a unique perspective on nature and one that can change the way you view the natural world,” Kovar said.

The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tree Climbing Planet’s Oregon City site, 20451 South Central Point Road. The cost is $200 per person and is limited to eight participants in order to provide personalized attention and guidance. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Younger students ages 13 to 15 may participate if accompanied by a parent/guardian.
